About The Book

I'm So Effing Tired by Dr. Amy Shah is a practical tool kit to beat burnout, heal anxiety, regain energy and reclaim your life. Dr. Shah reveals the secret of tapping into the powerful energy trifecta: The complex relationship between the gut, immune system and hormones to promote healing from the inside. Dr. Shah has coached thousands on how to use the power of circadian rhythms to achieve sustained energy and long-term health. This book will transform your life.

Reviews

"Doctor and nutritionist, Dr. Amy Shah debuts with a punchy and informative take on living a more energized life. A car accident at 32 was her catalyst to make changes in her life, and her "WTF" plan ("as in why the eff was I so tired?") was the result. Her advice is centered around regulating a woman’s "energy trifecta,"made up of balanced hormones, a well-functioning gut, and a healthy immune system. To that end, Dr. Shah focuses on diet, circadian fasting, stress reduction and sleep. She encourages readers to adopt a diet heavy on plants and fiber, consume all of their calories during an 8–10-hour window, sleep 7–9 hours every night and incorporate low-intensity exercise into daily life. Quizzes, cheat sheets, and "energy booster" facts round things out, along with a two-week meal plan. Dr. Shah peppers personal stories throughout, and her tone is reliably encouraging: "Remember, this is not about perfection. This is just about improving your metabolism." People feeling worn down will definitely want to check this book out."

Excerpts from the Book

You know those people who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound? And then there are some people who just look at a potato chip and gain five pounds? What gives? This is usually chalked up to the fact that everybody's metabolism is different, as if metabolism is something you can't really change. Your metabolism may be hard to change, but it is regulated by hormones, and what you are eating may be causing those hormones to go out of whack, which in turn effs with your metabolism, making you want to throw your scale out the bathroom window.

They looked at me blankly and told me I was "fine." They assured me that fatigue was "normal" for a new mother and for someone starting a new practice and said, "It’s not uncommon."

While this program is not primarily used for weight loss, gut rest (if done correctly and regularly) will indeed change your body composition through loss of fat mass and weight as well as improve markers of disease that are associated with carrying excess weight, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
